Mary Guevara

Head Coach

Coach “G" brings passion, resilience, and over a decade of coaching experience to the court, with a deep commitment to developing disciplined, team-first athletes.

A Fort Worth native, Marylee’s love for the game began in the 5th grade and continued through her career at Everman High School, where she was a three-year letterwinner. She helped lead her team to a 20–8 record and a Bi-District Championship appearance during the 2009–2010 season. Known for her defensive presence and toughness, she averaged 9.2 points, three assists, and two steals per game, earning Defensive Player of the Year honors and All-District recognition her senior year. She was also a highly efficient shooter, finishing her career as an 86% free throw shooter.

Marylee went on to play collegiately at LeTourneau University as a shooting guard. Her playing career was cut short due to multiple injuries, including an ACL tear and shoulder dislocation—experiences that shaped her mental toughness, resilience, and passion for teaching the game at a deeper level.

With more than ten years of coaching experience, Coach Guevara has made a meaningful impact across multiple programs. She began her coaching career at Nolan Catholic High School (2014–2016) before continuing at Trinity Valley School (2016–2019), where she served as Assistant Varsity Coach and Head JV Coach. During her time there, she helped guide the program to the Southwest Preparatory Conference Championship game in 2019 and coached elite talent, including one of the top players in the country, Madi Williams (University of Oklahoma).

Currently, Coach "G" serves at Westlake Academy as Assistant Varsity Coach, Head JV Coach, and Assistant Junior High Coach, where she has spent the past two years continuing to build and develop the program. In 2025, she helped lead the team to the TAIAO Championship game, further demonstrating her ability to elevate teams and develop competitive, well-rounded athletes.

In addition to her work on the court, Coach “G" brings a unique perspective through her experience on the operational side of premier basketball tournaments for over a decade, giving her a well-rounded understanding of the game at every level. She is currently pursuing her degree in Kinesiology with a focus in Physical Education at the University of Texas at Arlington and is set to graduate in December 2026, with plans to continue her education at the graduate level.

As a coach, Mary is a defense-first leader who emphasizes accountability, effort, and discipline. She is passionate about teaching the fundamentals of the game while developing confident, high-IQ players who understand spacing, communication, and how to impact winning. Her mission is to prepare athletes not only for success on the court, but to build character, resilience, and leadership that carries into every area of life.

Outside of basketball, Mary is a devoted wife and mother of three, and she brings that same level of care, structure, and intentionality into everything she does—both on and off the court.
