Brief info

Coach Ryon brings a high-level playing background, thoughtful leadership, and a passion for teaching the game to the Team Kidd Texas staff.

Ryon’s basketball journey began well before high school and continued at the collegiate level at Metro State University in Denver, Colorado, where he played from 2001 to 2005. A three-year team captain, he was part of one of the most successful runs in program history—helping lead his team to a Division II National Championship in 2002, followed by a Sweet 16 appearance in 2003, a Final Four run in 2004, and an Elite Eight finish in 2005. His experience competing at a high level continues to shape his approach to the game today.

Following his playing career, Ryon began coaching at Regis Jesuit High School and later spent time at Grand Junction Central High School, building a strong foundation as a teacher of the game.

Fast forward to 2025, an opportunity opened for Ryon to get involved with our program after his daughter, Harper (2030) had been a rostered player for a few years and his family had been a committed and perfect fit to our community. With his background in playing and coaching, plus the strong relationships he had already built within our community, we were incredibly excited to welcome him to our staff. We are especially grateful for his willingness to serve—giving his evenings and weekends, alongside a busy professional schedule, to invest in our athletes and give back to the program in a meaningful way.

As a coach, Ryon emphasizes an aggressive defensive mindset, teaching early rotations, traps, and stunts while building a connected, team-first defensive identity. He is a detailed teacher of the game who prioritizes helping athletes understand the “why” behind what they are doing—believing that clarity leads to confidence and execution.

Ryon is especially passionate about helping young women find their voice and develop self-advocacy. He strives to create an environment that is positive, open, and rooted in trust—where athletes are encouraged to grow in confidence, embrace servant leadership, and build strong team relationships.

Off the court, Ryon and his wife, Holly—who is often the creative mind and driving force behind many of the fun club outings—live in Haslet and are proud parents to their daughter, Harper (Class of 2030). Ryon has been one of our strongest supporters of female leadership and has played a meaningful role in enhancing the culture we’ve built within our program and community. His investment reflects both his love for the game and his commitment to developing the next generation of athletes.
