Performance/ Leadership Coach
Brief info
As a graduate of Liberty Christian High School, Whitney Hand Jones is no stranger to the Argyle area. She was a three-time TAPPS State Champion and a four-time TAPPS State MVP. She currently holds the record for the second-highest scorer in the state of Texas (3,469).
Following an illustrious high school career, Whitney continued her basketball journey at the University of Oklahoma where she made an immediate impact as a freshman starter on a talented Final Four team. Her OU teams boasted two Final Four and two Sweet Sixteen appearances during her tenure. Whitney was also a four-year captain as a Sooner and was known for her grit and shooting abilities. Her collegiate accolades include:
—NCAA All-freshman team (’09)
—BIG XII Freshman of the year (’09)
—OKC regional MVP (’09)
—ALL BIG XII 2nd team ('11)
—BIG XII All Tournament team (’12)
—ALL BIG XII 1st team (’12)
Whitney tore both her ACLs during her five years at Oklahoma (’10, ’13), but was drafted by the San Antonio Silver Stars following her senior year. After her playing career concluded, she joined her husband in Pittsburgh where he was beginning his professional football career. While navigating the NFL life over the next four years, Whitney coached at the high school level and served as a color analyst for local TV/radio broadcasts. As her husband’s football career intensified, Whitney placed her focus back onto her education. She received a Master’s Degree and became a certified performance/leadership coach, specializing in development through the athletic experience and anxiety in sport.
Whitney and her husband, Landry, have recently decided to call Argyle home and are thrilled to raise their three children, Zeke (4), Jax (2.5), and Quinn (10 months) in the community. Whitney is passionate about athletics and everything sports programs have to offer youth in terms of development. She serves as the local Fellowship of Christian Athletes representative and is also involved with the student ministry of Argyle Community Church. Her desire is to equip adolescents with mental, emotional, and physical tools and watch them come alive as they grow in their identity and purpose, in and out of their respective sport.
When Whitney is not working with athletes, she is busy at home with her young family, designing florals for Sweet Peach Floral Design, or doing some kind of outdoor activity. Having lived in five different states, the Joneses love to travel and explore, but are thrilled to finally plant roots and positively impact their community.
